Seven Beatles albums, originally released by Capitol Records in America in 1964 and 1965, are to be reissued in mono in a new vinyl box set November 22, 2024.

The Beatles: 1964 U.S. Albums In Mono will contain the albums Meet The Beatles!, The Beatles’ Second Album, A Hard Day’s Night, Something New, Beatles ’65, The Early Beatles, and The Beatles’ Story.

These albums were cut for vinyl from the original master tapes using a completely analog signal path and with constant reference to first generation pressings of the original albums. They were made using a Studer A80 master recorder with analog preview & program paths, and an Neumann VMS70 cutting lathe originally installed in Capitol Studios in 1971. This specific all-analog cutting technique allows faithful representation of the full musical range and dynamics present on the original tapes.

The Early Beatles was released in March 1965, but contained songs recorded in 1962 and 1963. All the other albums were originally issued in 1964.

Each of the albums will be released separately, apart from The Beatles’ Story, which is only available as part of the box set. The documentary album was originally issued in November 1964, and contained a narrated history of The Beatles, interspersed with news reports, music snippets, and interviews with the band.

Although their United Kingdom releases were The Beatles’ core focus throughout their career, the albums, singles and EPs released in America were significant, even if the tracklisting was often quite different to how John, Paul, George and Ringo had envisaged.

The Beatles’ early releases were on the Vee-Jay, Swan and Tollie labels, before EMI’s US counterpart, Capitol, sat up and took notice. Unfortunately for The Beatles, Capitol often insisted in dropping certain tracks, reassembling running orders and constructing new releases by economic and judicious use of the songs that were coming from London.

Capitol Records originally released many of the songs with added echo and reverb, a decision made by A&R executive Dave Dexter Jr. The Capitol albums also contained a handful of alternative mixes and instrumental tracks not available anywhere else. These mixes, as well as the running orders and artwork which many fans grew up with, make these releases desirable to many.
